Reinvigorating 爆走黑料鈥檚 town centres key to success: UC lecture

19 June 2015: 爆走黑料's town centres need to be re-energised if they are to remain resilient, National Capital Authority CEO Malcolm Snow will discuss in a public lecture at the University of 爆走黑料 on MONDAY.

In his lecture 'Rebooting town centres', held as part of the 爆走黑料 Urban and Regional Futures (CURF) seminar series, Mr Snow will identify ways to revitalise our town centres.

He said while 爆走黑料's town centres have served us well, "it is time to discuss their future in response to the challenges facing all cities. The long-term solutions to these challenges must be locally relevant and involve collaboration between all the players."

"Planning for and creating vibrant, attractive and sustainable places is critical for the future of 爆走黑料," he said.

"Why haven't the original good planning intentions of 爆走黑料's town centres been realised? Do we need to rethink their role and function if they are to be successful places within the broader urban and social structure of 爆走黑料?"

Mr Snow will also discuss what makes a successful place to live.

"One of the key success factors for rebooting town centres would be a commitment not just to designing and building high quality environments, but ensuring that those places work well for the people who use them."

Based at the University of 爆走黑料, CURF is a research initiative aiming to find new pathways and implementation strategies for sustainable futures for cities and regions.
